I bought the TX-SR875S from amazon.com on 3/13/08. No problem until 10/12/09 when I found the led front display was not working. I attempted to reset per manual suggestion...unsuccessful. I called onkyo and was referred to 2 service center in Dallas. I brought the merchandise to K.O. Electronics and was told it was going to take about 4-6 weeks and that they were the only service center in Texas (inferring I have no choice). I informed him that Audio electronics also in Dallas repairs Onkyo. I called Audio Electronics and they too have 3-4 weeks waiting and that they only recently started accepting onkyo products only a few months ago. K.O. electronics blames the wait due to work back log and back order supplies. The next nearest service center is in Denver. I also found out this problem has happen to this model several times and can be fixed in a matter of hours (2-3). This product comes with a 2 year manufacturer warranty. It is by far the best receiver I've listened to (NHT classic 7.1 speaker set up/ 60" sony) when working. Beware when buying onkyo product because if it fails your up creek due to lack of support. I found out the hard way....lesson learned.

Excellent unit...excellent sound reproduction. The unit has a 1080p upconversion for your Plasma TV. I deem it a great buy, and very feature rich.



I am no amplifier geek, but I can tell you that I have connected a lot of equipment to this unit and it functions very well.



Disadvantages: 1) High heat output. 2) When connecting the video output to the TV, there is a time delay in getting the video signal to the TV when the system turns on. 3) The unit is heavy.

Really solid video processing. My objective was to improve performance while reducing cabling by using only HDMI cables. Does a beautiful job feeding 1080P to a Sony 60A3000 SXRD. Tuning down the SXRD's brightness allows a virtually artifact-free image.

I have had the 875 for a month now and it has performed flawlessly in my main home theater application. The initial set up was very easy to follow and it tweaked my B&W speaker arrangement with precision. The Onkyo 875 replaced a 2 year old Denon 2807 unit primarily because of the extra HDMI inputs allowed me to connect a Direct TV DVR, Sony PS3, DVD all via HDMI. The 875's power and greater ability to drive my B&W speakers is amazing and noticeably better. To the issue of heat, my unit is "on" a significant amount of time each day and the unit does get warm, but nothing as crazy as some of the reviews indicate. I would highly recommend and feel it provides a lot of bang for the buck.

I bought these last month to play with pioneer vsx 1019. Overall Im happy with this set for the price. I feel the music sounds good, im sure other speakers probably can sound better but your paying 300 for 7.1 system, so for the price I think it sounds great. If you want higher quality your going to pay more for it... Also i went out and bought speaker wire as the ones that came with it weren't long enough for my room. i also bought banana plugs on [...] for under 20 bucks to plug into back which i would highly recommend, much easier to plug into the back of the receiver. i would recommend this set for the price if your not willing to fork out alot of money.

Let me start off by saying that I'm not really buying into the 2010 receiver lineup. I don't believe that DSX is that great of a feature, I don't believe that HDMI 1.4 will be that necessary. Therefore, I purchased last year's 876 for a STEAL. I am upgrading from a 2006 mid-level Denon receiver and really needed HDMI scaling. I appreciate that this receiver will let you choose what setting to apply on each input. Also, for the price, I am glad to have dual HDMI outputs for my front projector and lcd. The Audyssey MultiEQ XT performs well, needing very minor adjustments to fine tune to my personal listening tastes. My main dislike with Onkyo receivers (which has been well documented) is the heat that they output.

If you want power for an price you can't beat than buy this unit. Onkyo says it rates at 140 watts X 7 channels at 8 ohms. I don't know about that however. When setting up the unit you have two choices (4 ohms or 6 ohms and higher). I bought this item in December 2009, I belive this unit has been out for two years. If you buy this unit or any Onkyo in this class I would recommend an av component cooler, becasuse this unit runs hot. Just another quick note the setup menu is pretty cool too.

A first class product - have had it for 9 months. Sounds great and Reon Video processor does a super job - I have all content upgraded to 1080p to 60" Pioneer Plasma. Interface is pretty easy, but takes some time with the manual to understand things. Does run hot, so needs ventilation. Looks like this is being phased out so you can get them cheap. Always had good luck with Amazon and electronic purchases.

When I bought my XBox360 and PS3 last year, I started looking for a receiver that could replace my Harmon Kardon and Silicon Image DVDO scaler, with a receiver that had HDMI. All of my research led me to this unit. For me, the multiple HDMI inputs were very important, but it also had to take multiple legacy inputs (I have a laserdisc player, for example, with a large movie collection), and process them as well. So the REON was very important to me, and it would allow my to replace the DVDO.



In practice, I think the DVDO was a bit better at scaling/de-interlacing, but the convenience provided by all the features being built into one unit make up for that.



Secondly, I have to sing the praises of the Audyssey MultiEQ. After having used other auto calibration setups before, I would rank the Audyssey as the best that I've tried.



I've had the unit for almost a year now, and have enjoyed it. I placed a 120mm 12V fan in my entertainment center, and have never had any problems with it over-heating.



I took away one star for the fairly generic remote. In the price class, I would expect something better. Other receivers I've had in the past included two-way RF communication, LCD displays, or other features that set them apart in some way. The remote that comes with the 876 has nothing special about it.

I sold my older TX-SR800 THX Onkyo amplifier and replaced it with this unit mainly for the HDMI interfaces.



That part works great. I have hooked up my Blue Ray DVD player and my HD TIVO DVR to the new Onkyo TX-SR876. One HDMI output going to the HD TV. This is great.



Speaker configuration:

I strongly suggest owning or borrowing a tripod for the speaker calibration.

I also recommend running through (although it is not required) ALL the speaker `room positions' I believe the minimum is 4 positions.



Once calibrated you will immediately notice crystal clear separation of sound between all your channels assuming you are using a 7.1 setup.



Playing Blue-Ray DVD's or regular DVD's or CD's the sound processing is great.



Cons:

I am giving this review 4 stars instead of 5 because I have noticed and experienced one specific issue.

When watching regular TV, it is really hard to hear clearly. What I mean is - I have to crank up the volume to approximately mark 65-70 to hear a good strong loud sound. Then again if I happen to watch a HD programming like Fringe or Survivor, the sound is good. Swap over to the local news which is broadcast in regular non HD and you have the sound processing and volume issue.



So I have to constantly adjust the volume depending on what I am watching.

I never had this problem with my old unit. My old TX-SR800 was `powerful' I never ran the volume above mark 60 (honestly I did only once and rattled everything in the house forcing paintings to fall off the wall. Let's just say that was a one-off test).



You could rectify this `volume' issue by manually configuring the speaker calibration levels on the Onkyo TX-SR876. You can crank up the levels on all the speakers and you will NOT have the problem of having to turn the volume up high. BUT I have noticed when doing that it impacts the sound and clarity. Especially when watching DVD's and Blue-Ray the sound will be effected because the separation of sound between all the speakers will not be balanced and `fine-tuned'.



All in all this is a great amplifier with great features for a great price. Some quirks but nothing one can't live with.

It's my own fault. I didn't fully understand all the technical terms.

The unit has pass through HDMI connections which require additional audio connections to the component inputs from the TV to the receiver. Splitters are required because there is only one audio output from the TV and three component devices supported. I wanted to avoid the extra audio cables. Should have purchased a different (more exprnsive) model.

i got this system for christmas after looking long and hard at other surround sound packages and wasnt looking to spend alot of money. i was looking at the panasonic SC-BT300 , the Samsung HT-BD1250 and LG LHB953 since i did not have a blu ray player then. i was looking for a simple upgrade to my panasonic SAHT740, mostly since it only played dvds in 5.1. i then figured i should just get a system that does one thing well other then a system that does a few things just adequate and also considering that blu ray could be surpassed by another format down the line. after reading many reviews, the onkyo 7200 seemed like the system to get, with its tall boy speakers and upconversion, but at over $800, it was a little too pricey. then i looked at the 5200-but decided against it since it needs digital optical audio cables to run the audio plus the HDMI to run video. the 6200 was a terrific compromise between both, and seeing that i dont use analog cables anyway, it was just what i needed. once you program the reciever with the Audyssey 2EQ mic, the sound is astounding! i aint the most A/V savvy guy around, so this made my life ALOT easier. the speaker setup and connection was simple and straight foward. so was the placement of the 8 included speakers, even with my oddly shaped living room (although finding room for that big subwoofer was a little tricky). since this is a 7.1 setup with no tallboys, i figured id have to buy a at least 3 sets of stands- that wasnt the case. i used the old stands i had, put the far surround speakers on the wall and just put the front speakers on my entertainment center- which was a temporary fix, but now its a fix i see no need in upgrading. the Audessey will help correct any misteps you might make in placing any of the speakers. my living room setup right now consists of a Panasonic TH-50PX80U, my Verizon cable box/DVR and a PS3 slim (set to bitstream)as well as the the 6200. unfortunatly, there isnt much "direct" 7.1 content available, so im usually using the Dolby EX, DTS NEO:6, or PRO LOGIC IIx listening modes to expand the sound and couldnt be happier with the processing results. i havent yet hooked up any additional front "height" speakers, and do not see a need to as of yet, therefore i havent tried the PRO LOGIC IIZ listening mode. i certainly recommend this system to anyone who is looking for an upgrade, who may have an old system with no HDMI capabilities, or who doesnt even have a theater setup yet and is looking to get lost in a movie (or even a PS3 game). to most with a decent 5.1 setup, 7.1 might not seem like a huge leap foward, though for me, now that i have heard it (even if it is, as in most cases, simulated) i can never go back. the sound it produces just from your cable source alone will make you feel that you should be paying an admittance fee.

I bought this audio system after reading all the reviews. All I can say is wow! I just watched Superbowl 44 and the half-time with the WHO was just amazing. I felt like I was physically their with the crowd. I had my system cranked up to almost 90% and there wasn't any distortion. It was just clean and awesome. I don't use all the speakers since my basement entertainment room(16 x 14) is wired to handle 6.1 and not 7.1. But this HT system can be configured as a 6.1 instead of 7.1. My next upgrade will be to purchase two tower speakers and make my existing front speakers front-high speakers. Yes, this system can handle two set of front speaker and handle 9 total speakers (2 front high, 2 front low, 1 center, 2 surround, 2 back and 1 sub!!!)



BTW - This is my second home theater system from Onkyo. i bought a 6.1 system about 5 years ago that I am still using today as a 3.1 system in our living room and it still sounds great.

I recently bought my second LCD tv (Samsung LN46b750) and i wanted to have a really kick ass sound system to go with it. Problem was, most of the high end systems cost about 1000 dollars, a bit too pricey for the wife to stomach. Fortunately for me and my wallet, i stumbled upon the Onkyo HT-s6200. I saw the price tag and couldn't believe it. I wen't ahead and made the purchase knowing that Onkyo is one of the best in the buisness and boy am i glad i did. This system blows away my old Philips HTIB, which was a very good system. The connections are very easy, may seem a little intimidating at first, but just follow the diagram and you can't go wrong. The subwoofer on this system is HUGE! And you can really hear the difference when you play a bluray. This system is incredible, the sound clarity through the ipod/iphone dock is really astounding. A word of warning though, the system uses a power plug and the subwoofer uses one too, so make sure you have two open slots. If you don't want to have your sat/dvr box on all the time i suggest buying a Digital Optical Cable, usually around 4 bucks. The diagram has you connecting your sat/dvr box to the reciever and NOT the tv, so that means whenever you turn on your dvr box the reciever WILL be on all the time. I currently have my bluray and dvr box connected to the tv with an HDMI cable and i have the TV connected to the reciever with the optical cable, which i think is more practical for most people who don't want to use a huge amount of electricity. I purchased this for 550 bucks, if you can get it at the same price or cheaper do not hesitate! Amazon did an awesome job of getting this is perfect shape as usual, plus the box has tons of styrofoam so don't worry too much.

We love our new sound system by Onkyo. It was very easy to hook up. I am a blonde female and I could do it! It has colored wires so you know which ones go to which speakers and in the back of the receiver. We have a concrete foundation and last week we had a new floating floor put on top of it. I made sure that the wires going across doorways were put down where they should be and since the wires are very long, it was no problem. With so many speakers you want true surround sound. After the installation of the flooring was completed I turned on everything and all the speakers worked perfectly. We are very happy. Reading the other reviews before we bought this helped us to make our decision on which one we wanted to buy. Thank you Amazon.

 "Awesome reciever for the money" 2010-02-12

Supports tons of inputs, but the lack of a custom equalizer, and that fact that it flat-out says it doesn't support computer signals, decreases one star on features for me. Im convinced that with an EDID "signal doctor" it could be made to support pc-output via HDMI. The picture can look fuzzy if you send analog through this over HDMI, but the effect is canceled if you also hook up an analogue output in addition to an HDMI output. Sound clarity is great, and the auto-setup with microphone is a godsend. Support for dual subwoofers is a nice plus. The remote is functional and has a solid feel. You can rename any input as well.

Note that this is the first AV Receiver I have ever owned.



The reciever was an excellent value - provides awesome surround sound. Paired it with Klipsch HT300 speakers - and I am extremely satisfied. But it took me quite a while to get it connected to my components.



Use banana plugs to connect the speakers! Wiring the speakers without plugs was difficult - I ended up removing them all, adding banana plugs, and then reconnecting. I highly recommended saving the time and effort, and just do the plugs from the very beginning.



Identifying which ports to connect the components in was not straightforward. It may take a few tries to get the "assignment" feature down - and to get the appropriate devices to be controlled by the corresponding remote button. But once you get it - all will be good. I have all components being controlled by the Onkyo remote (with exception being DVR "record/playback").



Final comment is on Onkyo's UP-A1 iPod dock - I bought it and returned it. It does not have on-screen display (OSD)! So any time you want to change a song or video - you have to go over to the iPod and do it there. If you are considering a dock - get the Onkyo DS-A3. It costs about $30 more - but you get OSD - which I can't imagine using a dock without (maybe just my personal preference).

After extensive research on the internet, mostly AVS forums, I decided on this for my first receiver. It is great for my small apartment running my klipsch quintets III and polk psw110. It sounds great for an entry level surround sound system in my small apartment. It is nice to be able to plug my cable box and my ps3 by hdmi into one device, then send a single hdmi to the tv. This receiver also has one feature that I would have considered a deal breaker, hdmi passthrough. If you turn the receiver off, it will pass hdmi inputs through as if they were wired straight to the tv. It was easy to turn this feature on and is great since I don't want to listen to the morning news in surround sound, it save electricity, too.

It also has a built in feature that sets the frequency of your speakers based on seating positions. I didn't have to do much to set up a good sounding home theater, most of the work is done for you.

As for the heat issue, it's not that bad. Yes, it gets hot but if kept in a well ventilated area this will not be a problem. No, will not be able to boil an egg on it. It is manufactured to run at this temp, so it shouldn't be an issue as far as damaging itself. Other note, it's big. I had to rearrange my entertainment center to fit this beast.

For the price, this cannot be beat.

Onkyo states in the shipping documents that this item comes with the ipod docking station and they did send it before with the docking station but the item I recieved did not include it and when I made calls to find out why, I was simply told that if I don't like it I can return it, knowing full well that the items are too bulky to resent and the cost is prohebitive of doing so.

The service is an important part of an item and as far as I am concerned this is the last time I buy anything from Onkyo as I know most other customer services will not simply tell you to take it or leave it, and tell you not to bother contacting them!

Very solid system, i have it hooked up to a denon 1910 and works great, right now my whole set up includes a samsung ln52b750, xbox360,ps3 and a samsung bd-p3600 and it all works great together!! movies are great and so are the video games!! speakers are alot louder than expected.... also the speakers were easy to hang on my walls, they all have a single keyhole. Also the system came with its own speaker cables!! if your just getting into the whole home theather game like i am!! try these out!! they are worth the price!! very solid system

I am happy with this speaker set because, in my view, I got a lot of value for what I paid. I wouldn't call myself an Onkyo fan when it comes to entertainment devices - Sony receiver, Sony PS3, Sony BD player, Samsung TV - but I am aware of Onkyo's reputation for quality and this set of speakers doesn't disappoint.



All prospective buyers should be aware that these are 6 Ohm (SIX OHM) speakers. They will work well with 6 Ohm receivers, of course, and you SHOULD be able to use them with an 8 Ohm receiver if it's kept in a well-ventilated shelf and you don't keep it continuously at full blast. My own receiver is 8 Ohm and it seems to be Okay but both Onkyo and the receiver maker may not want to honor the warranty if they get word of this.





CONTENTS



What you get is good quality, 130W speakers encased in well-built wood boxes, a 290W powered woofer and then, there are a couple of unexpected bonuses.



- 1 Center speaker, surprisingly large

- 2 Front speakers on 'tower' stands (tallboy) - will save you money on speaker stands but if you're thinking about hanging them, this is not your set.

- 4 Satellite speakers - do have hanging holes

- 1 Woofer - powered, connects through 'banana' jacks on both ends

- Color-coded wires for each speaker - kind of thin and I used my own, see below but... they're free

- Onkyo UP-A1 Dock for the iPod - this was totally unexpected





SETUP



A screwdriver will be needed to attach the heavy metal base to the front, floor-standing speakers.



If you go with the color-coded wires, connecting everything is easy. I decided that I wanted thicker, copper speaker wire so I went with ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AP-16100W 100' White 16 Gauge Oxygen-Free Speaker Wire and I'm happy I did that. The 100 ft. spool was about 25 ft. short of what I needed so, until I get another 25 ft., one of my satellite speakers will be using the Onkyo-supplied wire so I'm happy they included these.



The center and satellite speakers have mounting holes in the back but not on the base. I like my center speaker to sit on top of the TV and that was accomplished with about 1 ft. of Velcro 2"-wide tape. I used Velcro on the 4 stands as well as, in my view, it preserves the speaker's integrity and it even offers some cushioning.



I do not own an iPod or an Onkyo receiver so the iPod Dock I am trying to sell at Amazon. Hopefully, there will be a buyer and that should help reduce the overall cost of this set.





THE EXPERIENCE



I only have good things to say about this set. For what I paid, it fully meets my expectation. The sound is full, crisp and if there are any distortions my ear is not trained or sensitive enough to detect them.



Physically, the boxes look professionally built and designed, uncompromising black matte with the sides of the center, the top of the front speakers and the woofer's front a perfect shiny polish - don't touch them or the fingerprints could be seen from a distance. The tall front pair is stable even on my carpeted floor.





RATING



This set deserves its 5 stars well for delivering good quality, well-built speakers and the couple of extras - wires, iPod dock. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a 7.1 set of 6 Ohm speakers.

I had been looking for a reasonably priced 7.1 system, this one has been perfect. The speakers are unobtrusive, and reasonably sized, and the sound quality is great for a sub-$400 system. I wasn't aware when I purchased the set that it also includes the Onkyo UP-1A iPod adapter, while I have no idea why it is included it was a nice bonus, however I suspect that the $90 optional adapter increased the price, and it only works with Onkyo receivers (I have a Sony), for Onkyo Receiver owners this could save an extra purchase. I put mine up for sale on Amazon marketplace. The sub is more than adequate for the 14x14 room that I have my TV in, and the surround effect is spot on. All in all, I'm quite pleased with the quality of construction and the quality of the sound. The included speaker wire is good in a pinch, but I opted for thicker Monster speaker wire, I don't know enough about wire to tell if it made a difference, but I thought it was nice that the wire was included...
